A Missouri Lottery player in Jackson County discovered she won a $50,000 Powerball prize in the Sept. 6 drawing and immediately started making plans for her family.

"I told my son, ‘You're going to have a good Christmas, I promise!’" she said.

Her ticket, purchased at Zipz Fuel Expresso, 13920 S. Highway 71 in Grandview, matched four of the five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball, to win the $50,000 prize. The winning numbers on Sept. 6 were 11, 23, 44, 61 and 62, and the Powerball number was 17.

“I was a little bit in shock. I was like, ‘WHAT?!’” she recalled. “I thought I was still sleeping. I didn't think it was real so I went and scanned it. It was a shock, for sure.”

The win occurred in the same drawing that produced a $893.5 million jackpot winner in Missouri, as well as two other $50,000 winning tickets.

In FY24, players in Jackson County won more than $109.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.8 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $22 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
