A Missouri Lottery player in Kansas City uncovered a $3 million top prize on a “Big Riches” Scratchers ticket after using an initial $100 win to purchase more tickets.

“I started out with $40. I bought two $20 tickets and won $100,” the winner explained. “(I) bought another ticket and won another $100. I used my winning ticket to keep playing and won $250.” 

That’s when things got really interesting.

“I went to cash those tickets and bought two more $30 tickets,” he said. “I saw I matched two numbers and thought, ‘Well, that’s at least $30.’”

To his surprise, his ticket ended up containing one of the $3 million top prizes in the “Big Riches” Scratchers game.

“I won $3 million off of $40!” he laughed.

He purchased the winning ticket at Parvin Thriftway, 5004 N.E. Parvin Road, in Kansas City.

In FY25, Clay County players won more than $39.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $2.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $17.2 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the city.
